Shifting Sands

Summer 2005. In the shadow of Israel’s disengagement from Gaza, forty families from the Elei Sinai settlement, led by Sarita Maoz and Eli Bohadana, refuse to scatter into state-issued caravan sites. Instead, they march eastward to a tent encampment, leaving their demolished homes behind. A dramatic political shift opens a door to the unexpected: an offer to rebuild their community within Kibbutz Palmachim—my own home. As the filmmaker, I witness an extraordinary decade-long journey of two contrasting communities forging an unlikely bond. This is a story of rupture and resilience, of strangers becoming neighbors, and of choosing connection over division.
