‘Bystanding: The Feingold Syndrome’ is an immersive interactive VR docufiction. It explores the deepest confessions of bystanders who witnessed a rower capsize and did not jump in to help. Using novel techniques of volumetric capture, photogrammetry, animations, and 360º videos, 'Bystanding' recreates that Tel-Aviv riverbank from the summer of 2009. On that day, Jasmin Feingold, an Israeli rowing champion, was out practicing on the Ha’Yarkon River. During her practice, she lost consciousness and capsized. Jasmin remained submerged for almost five minutes, while on the riverbank, dozens of passersby learned of the accident. None took any action to help.
