On 6 August (12 Av) 2006 a Katyusha rocket landing in the Kfar Giladi cemetery killed 12 I.D.F. soldiers doing reserve duty. Less than 100 meters and more than 86 years separate them from the eight casualties of 11 Adar (1 March) 1920 buried there under the monument of the roaring lion. Ironically, Trumpeldor and his comrades, just like the I.D.F. soldiers of the Second Lebanon War, waited in vain for reinforcements, supplies, and clear instructions from a hesitant leadership in the center of the country.
